It goes without saying that 2020 has been a challenging year for tourism all over the world, thanks largely to the effects of the global pandemic.

Switzerland is one of those travel destinations that truly offers something for everyone - a nation of major cities and remote Alpine lake towns, of modern urban lifestyles and traditional mountain customs.

If you’re on the hunt for a luxury chalet property in Switzerland, and trying to decide which Alpine location to purchase in, then Verbier is always worthy of consideration.

Skiing in Switzerland has long been associated with images of the majestic Matterhorn mountain and its neighbouring peaks. Few people pass through the world famous canton of Valais without paying a visit to this true icon of the Alps.

Switzerland’s iconic Matterhorn is widely regarded as one of the world’s most photographed natural phenomena. This is hardly surprising; the mountain boasts an unusually large and symmetrical pyramid peak that - especially when viewed from the north-east faces - gives it a breathtaking and truly iconic silhouette.

When heading to Verbier for a winter sports break - or indeed to investigate a potential chalet purchase - it pays to know your way around the area.

Swiss National Day falls annually on the 1st of August, marking the approximate date that the Federal Charter of 1291 was said to have been signed.

Like all of the most desirable visitor hotspots in the Swiss Alps, the charming Swiss Alpine town of Crans-Montana is associated first and foremost with winter sports pursuits.

The Matterhorn is, without doubt, one of the most iconic peaks on Earth. Instantly recognisable from any angle thanks to that uniquely dramatic shark’s tooth peak, it’s a towering colossus that straddles the Swiss-Italian border.

Located very close to the borders of both Italy and France, Verbier is a reliably popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts of all abilities. Meanwhile, a welcoming cool-temperate climate provides ideal conditions year-round for a wide range of other outdoor activities.

Being situated at the upper end of the stunning Matter valley (or Mattertal to the locals), Zermatt enjoys a lofty perch among the many ‘four-thousander’ peaks that dot this epic landscape - not least the iconic Matterhorn itself.

It’s no secret that there’s a great deal to do besides skiing when you stay in Crans-Montana and the surrounding Valais canton - and, unsurprisingly, much of the off-piste activity that this stunning Alpine region has to offer is also centred on making the most of those breathtaking mountain backdrops.
