Crans-Montana is a beautiful twin town that offers everything from its famous ski resort to jaw-dropping panoramic views of the nearby Alps. The region has a population of 10,000, however, thanks to world-class skiing, accommodation and dining, it’s also a massive draw for tourists from all over the world.

Crans-Montana is actually a relatively new municipality, having only formed in 2017 following the merging of Mollens, Montana, Chermignon and Randogne.

The region is renowned for its fantastic slopes, buzzing nightlife, and bustling culture. Just 30 miles from the French border, it’s the perfect location for those looking to explore and get stuck into local life.

With a huge variety of skiing options, Verbier is the ideal place to visit for intermediate or advanced skiers who want to put their skills to the test.

Zermatt

Zermatt may have a small population of just 5,800, but it sits at the foot of one of Switzerland’s highest peaks, providing plenty of opportunities to soak in the views of the iconic Matterhorn.

In the 19th Century, the area relied on its local agriculture, but since winter sports tourists discovered the area mid-century, the region has become synonymous with skiers and hikers looking to experience the world-famous landscape.

Top activities

Without a doubt, the biggest draw to Zermatt is the incredible Matterhorn, a 4,478-metre peak famous the world over for its unique, pyramid shape. In the summer the snowy peaks and rolling green hills offer breathtaking hikes and views, while in the winter they provide challenging ski slopes for intermediate and advanced skiers. Zermatt is also home to the Matterhorn Museum, where you can learn all about the history of the mountain.

If you prefer a more relaxing experience, but still want to take in the view, the Sunnegga sun terrace has dining options that allow you to enjoy a good meal in the shadow of the Matterhorn.

Zermatt is also home to the Gornergrat Railway, meaning there are plenty of options when it comes to soaking in the legendary views.
