Unforgettable Evening Spots in Zermatt

Unforgettable Evening Spots in Zermatt

Zermatt is home to more nightclubs and bars than any other resort in the canton of Valais. This statistic combined with the legendary aprés-ski scene means there’s no shortage of ways to spend your evenings in Zermatt. We’ve made a list of some of our favourite places to give you inspiration.

Our favourite après-ski bars

The term après-ski was first coined in the 50s, and since then has become an essential element of any ski holiday. No matter how you’ve fared on the slopes, the after-party is always open to all, and here are some of the best places to get stuck in.

Hennu Stall

The atmosphere at this bar has earned it the reputation of being one of the best après-ski spots in Zermatt. Push your already tired legs to their limit by dancing on the tables to the sound of live bands and DJs. You can find Hennu Stall between Furi and Zermatt, right next to the ski slope - but remember that after your partying is done you’ll still have a short distance to ski back to Zermatt.

Cervo

Ski straight up to the deck for your après-ski in this stunning mountain resort, and you’ll find a packed events calendar full of great music, delicious drinks to sip while you dance, and amazing food to fill your belly after a day on the slopes. Thaw your boots in the heated ski room and take in the incredible view of the Matterhorn - this is an unmatched après-ski spot.

Papperla Pub

Open till 2am on the weekends, Papperla Pub is an integral part of the nightlife in Zermatt. A prime example of a place where ‘just one drink’ can easily become many, this Irish-style pub offers a wide variety of nighttime delights, from DJs to live bands and even foam parties. If you’ve got the energy to get a little wild at the end of a long day’s skiing, Papperla Pub is the place to do it.

Our favourite bars

Whether skiing is a frequent pastime or a newfound passion, chances are you’ll finish up on the slopes and find yourself in need of a drink. Here are some of our favourite watering holes in Zermatt for you to peruse.

Snowboat

Sushi restaurant by day and bar by night, Snowboat is popular with the aprés ski crowd thanks to its proximity to the ski lift. The bar area includes an impressive aquarium, and as the name suggests, the building itself is shaped like a boat. In winter you can drink on the patio under a warm blanket provided by friendly staff, and in the summer season drinks are served jacuzzi-side. Dive in!

Bar55

The self-proclaimed cosiest bar in Zermatt, why not warm yourself by the fire at Bar55 and find out for yourself? With an impressive wine cellar that also serves raclette and fondue, and a games room guaranteed to keep patrons of all ages entertained, Bar55 has something for everyone. Gin enthusiasts in particular will enjoy the range of drinks on offer here - but maybe avoid a go at the dart board after sampling them all.

Papa Caesar Lounge Bar

With an expansive drinks list and impressive humidor of cigars, at Papa Caesar’s you can recline on one of the leather sofas and let yourself be wrapped up in the atmosphere of a traditional lounge bar. Part of a hotel complex but accessible from the street, Papa Caesar’s also has a heated terrace that overlooks Main Street - the perfect place for sipping a drink at the end of the day.

Our favourite clubs

Not ready to go turn in for the night? If you’re looking for the chance to trade in your snow boots for dancing shoes, here are a few places you can show them off.

Broken Bar Disco

This basement club is legendary. With EDM on the speakers and the bass reverberating off the walls, Broken Bar is open till dawn and often hosts live music and DJs. There are few places in Zermatt with this club’s vibe, so make sure to give it a visit if you’re looking for a big night out.

Club Mamacita

You might not believe that you can find South American flair in the Swiss Alps, but Club Mamacita brings the heat in the form of this exceptional venue. Expect live music every night from an array of bands and singers (who often take requests), and let the friendly staff talk you through their impressive menu. Once you’re ready to get on your feet you can dance the night away beneath the disco ball.

Vernissage

Part of a central Zermatt hotel that also houses its own cinema, the Vernissage club is open till 2am and is a great haunt for night owls in the area, as few venues are open this late. The lineup of DJ and bands is often international, and guaranteed to get the room jumping. Vernissage is also the birthplace of the Zermatt Unplugged music festival, hosted every year in April.

Our favourite experiences

If you find yourself in need of a unique night out, there are plenty of unforgettable evening spots in Zermatt. Perfect for celebrating the end of a fantastic holiday season, or a birthday within your travel party - here are some special ways to round off a night:

Moonlight Descent

If you’ve ever longed to experience a moonlit ski in the shadow of the Matterhorn, this is your chance. After an aperitif at your starting point of Rothorn, make your way down to the twinkling lights of nighttime Zermatt in magical darkness, and be greeted with some mulled wine to warm you up again. This moonlight excursion is open to both snowboarders and skiers and accompanied by the Zermatt Piste Patrol.

Pistenbully Experience

Learn how Pistenbully drivers keep the pistes pristine by accompanying one as their co-driver. You’ll be sitting on up to 490 horsepower and overseeing the nightly preparation and maintenance of the slopes you ski by day. Pistenbully drivers are called heroes of the night for a reason - this unique experience will leave you with an even greater appreciation for the work they do.

Turbina

An event venue unlike any other, the Turbina used to provide hydropower to the Gornergrat railway, until this power source was replaced by electricity. Renovated in 2014, the Turbina is now the backdrop for a variety of events, including candlelit dinners, seminars, barbeques, and the annual Stoked Snowsports winter party. This truly unique location is well worth a visit for the historical importance, let alone the activities it now hosts.

A night out doesn’t end until you’re home

The best nights are the ones where getting home feels like a breeze. With a chalet of your own in Zermatt, all of the above would be within walking distance of your door. Maybe Zermatt has won you over with the incredible skiing alone, or maybe you’re interested in seeing what summer in Zermatt has to offer.
